Welcome to MAMA's first book club, devoted to radical reading.

Radical books challenge conventions and norms embedded in society. The titles in the reading list offer different perspectives on our culture with the publication of each book having inspired change and encouraged current movements for social, racial and environmental justice.

From Wiradjuri language interspersed throughout a novel, to explicit discussions about migration and decolonization, and expositions of gender and disability experiences – the Radical Book Club provides an open platform for critical thinking and discussion around these themes on a monthly basis.

The first six books in the reading list for 2021 are:

  • The Yield (2019) by Tara June Winch
  • Decolonizing Solidarity: Dilemmas and Directions for Supporters of Indigenous Struggles (2015) by Clare Land with a foreword by Dr Gary Foley
  • The End of Policing (2017) by Alex S. Vitale
  • Why I’m No Longer Talking to White People About Race (2017) by Reni Eddo-Lodge
  • No Country Woman: A Memoir of Belonging (2018) by Zoya Patel
  • Mask Off: Masculinity Redefined (2019) by JJ Bola

Books are able to be purchased in a bundle from MAMA Store, borrowed from the museum with deposit, or procured independently.

  • Option 1: First 6 books upfront + tote = $140
  • Option 2: Monthly loan of books = $20
