Media Release: Strategic Regional Plan Renewal

Media Release

June 2024

Regional Development Australia Murray Inc (RDA Murray) is proud to officially release its renewed Strategic Regional Plan, updating the details after a comprehensive mid-term review.

RDA Murray is a highly responsive, local organisation, listening to and fusing stakeholder ideas and observations into meaningful policy advice and implementation support to improve our region.

Reflecting the delivery of investments and programs such as bushfire and flood recovery, tourism developments and the changing needs of our communities with strong agricultural production and new large renewable energy transmission and production infrastructure, we’ve built in priorities against the new emerging issues around housing, workforce needs, and the impact of large infrastructure projects on the region. This final year of the 2022 – 2025 Strategic Regional Plan has been renewed to adapt to new policy and engages with key emerging issues and investment appetites.

“We really pay attention to people’s experiences and responding to issues as they arise” says RDA Murray CEO Edwina Hayes. “Large infrastructure projects are bringing new investment, jobs, and opportunities to the region, and with them comes the challenges of attracting and keeping enough people to fill all the jobs. We need to find enough workers and build our region, so everyone has access to accommodation and services such as schools, skills training, childcare, aged care, sport, arts, and health services.”

“Our strategic regional plan, renewed for its final year, explores all these challenges, with an eye to ensuring that these investments and our actions result in long term benefits for our communities.”

RDA Murray Board Chair, and Jingellic resident, Mary Hoodless, had the following to say about the renewal:

“I am very pleased with how the RDA Murray Strategic Regional Plan has enabled investment in infrastructure and services thus far, and I am eager to see how the revised plan will guide engagement with the challenges and key issues most affecting our Murray communities. I look forward to reporting on the impacts of the Australian Government’s Regional Investment Framework as we progress to June 2025.”

RDA Murray Board Members listen to their local communities, industry, and sector networks to understand the needs of the community. We use this regional intelligence to develop advice and activities to address emerging issues and build the economic capacity of the region.

The Strategic Regional Plan Implementation Review 2023 can now be accessed by the public on the RDA Murray website.
