Media Release: Mary Hoodless Steps Down as Chair of RDA Murray

December 2024

Regional Development Australia Murray (RDA Murray) would like to congratulate Mary Hoodless who, after five rewarding years, has chosen to not seek reappointment as the chair of the RDA Murray board in 2025.

As Chair of RDA Murray, Mary has been a constant channel of support and guidance for both the organisation and the board, providing key local insights and her wealth of experience to assist with decision making. During her tenure she has supported our organisation through multiple unprecedented challenges, including the 2019/2020 bushfires and the COVID 19 pandemic, with the clear vision and grace necessary to meet the moment.

“I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to Deputy Chair Geoff Lowe, whose unwavering support, insight, and dedication have been invaluable. Together with the incredible commitment of the board, staff, stakeholders, and the broader community, we have navigated both triumphs and trials, always emerging stronger and more united.” Mary Hoodless had to say.

“The resilience shown during the 2019/2020 Black Summer Bushfires, when our own property and many others were impacted, was nothing short of inspiring. The community’s courage and the collaborative spirit during this crisis reaffirmed my belief in the strength of our regional communities.

Likewise, working across local government areas along the border through the COVID-19 pandemic presented immense challenges. Yet, it also revealed the best of us—neighbours supporting neighbours, communities supporting communities  councils supporting councils, sharing resources, and providing comfort during border closures that deeply affected our communities.”

“In recent times, the shift toward renewable energy investments has stirred strong emotions across the region. While we recognize the critical need for sustainable energy solutions, we also acknowledge the complexities and concerns these changes bring to our community. I remain hopeful that our ongoing dialogue will lead to a balanced, thoughtful progress.

Additionally, it has been a joy to witness the Australian Government’s, Local Government and private investment in infrastructure, programs, and activities across the region. These initiatives have significantly enhanced the wonderful amenity, arts, culture, and environment that make our region so unique. This investment will undoubtedly leave a lasting legacy for future generations.”

“Serving as Chair has been an honour and a privilege. I am deeply grateful for the trust placed in me and for the friendships and partnerships forged along the way. I look forward to supporting the continued success of  RDA Murrayin new ways and watching as the next chapter unfolds. Thank you to RDA Murray stakeholder for your support, collaboration, and commitment to our shared vision.”
