The Federal Government has just announced $1.6 million in funding for the Murray Regional Art Gallery in Moama, as part of the Growing Regions Program.
This funding will support the first stage of construction for this new arts hub, the creation of the Gallery: which will comprise two gallery spaces, an artist-in-residence studio / large community art space, a multi-purpose events space, as well as a café and a gift shop.
This new gallery will host a small permanent collection and touring exhibitions. The culture, stories, history and art of Australia’s First Nations people, including the local Yorta Yorta Nation will be a feature, creating a unique, educational and impactful experience for visitors and a stimulus for understanding and reconciliation.
A second stage is planned, not funded by this announcement, which will see the construction of a raised walkway connecting the gallery to 17 hectares of Murray River bushland with plans for trails, cycle and walking paths, experiential outdoor installations and Indigenous interpreters to foster an understanding of country.
RDA Murray was pleased to support this important project’s application for funding. The gallery will bolster economic recovery for the region, support employment and act as a cultural hub for our local community. It will facilitate reconciliation, strengthen Murray regional arts, and offer unique social opportunities to locals and tourists alike.
